Do You Think You May Be Under Investigation?
If you suspect that you are under investigation for an economic crime (fraud), drug crime, internet crime, or any serious felony, you need a criminal defense attorney. The experienced investigation attorneys at Gasper Law Group can take steps to protect your rights, improve your legal position, and possibly avoid formal charges.
The government puts considerable resources into sting operations, and many innocent people or minor players are caught up in the dragnet. Because these investigations may span many months or years, there is an opportunity for a qualified lawyer to intervene in a positive way.
We represent clients in state or federal cases in El Paso County, Teller County, and Douglas and Arapahoe counties, including:
- Economic crimes – “White collar” crimes such as embezzlement, fraud, forgery, identity theft, or computer crimes
- Drug crimes – Dealing, trafficking, cultivation, money laundering
- Sex crimes – Child pornography or online solicitation of a minor
If you believe investigators are poking around, if you have been contacted regarding an investigation, or even if you have been formally arrested, contact our Colorado Springs law firm immediately.
Criminal Investigation Process
What You Should – And Shouldn’t – Do. The prospect of an arrest and prison is terrifying. The first impulse may be to delete emails and shred documents. This will only result in additional charges of obstruction of justice. The second impulse may be to cooperate with investigators and throw yourself at the mercy of the court. This is exactly what investigators are hoping for when they start making inquiries. Anything you say can and will be used against you.
If you do get a call or unannounced visit from investigators, it is important to remember that you have certain rights. You have the right to remain silent and do not have to speak with police officers. You have the right to seek legal representation immediately, prior to making any statement. Although it can be tempting to defend yourself and tell your side of the story, even a small amount of information that seems harmless at the time can assist Law Enforcement in making a case against you.
Police officers are trained in interrogation techniques, leaving you at a complete disadvantage anytime you interact with one. They know what information they are looking for to support a criminal offense, and the more you talk, the easier it is for officers to gather evidence against you and prove a crime was committed. Having experienced, reliable representation working on your behalf can ensure that your side of the story is told correctly and without coercion.
Whatever you do, do not lie about anything. Be polite, but set a reasonable time to get back with them, then let your attorney handle it from there.

The partner representing me, Ms. Caryn Adams was truly impressive in her knowledge of the law, her empathy, and her care for getting the best possible resolution in my favor in pre-trial negotiation. I’m not one to have an extensive experience with law firms or lawyers and court in general. However, the professionalism, guidance, and candor I’ve received from each person in this law firm have been beyond reproach. Anytime, I mean, anytime, I’ve had a question about my case and the way forward, I was met with a friendly and constructive conversation about my case. There was never a doubt in my mind, that I made the right choice when I selected this law firm to represent me. Caryn and Stacie have been a wonderful blessing to my life and my legal proceedings. If you are looking for a no-BS law firm that has a significant reputation in the Springs area, I absolutely recommend this one. Even though I hope to not have to deal with this again, fingers crossed and every lucky charm, I’d trust this law firm with my representation to handle the hard stuff and give me ease with court proceedings. Thank you all for what you do and have done for me, my family, and my career. Bless you all.- Steve S.

Why Having Pre-Charge Investigation Attorneys is Important
Just because you are being investigated for a crime does not mean you will be convicted or even charged for that crime. You are right to be scared, but before you talk to anyone – your boss, your business partner, anyone who could later be called to testify against you – contact the Gasper Law Group. We may be able to:
- Explain your actions to the satisfaction of prosecutors, avoiding formal charges or grand jury proceedings
- Influence charging decisions so that you face only a misdemeanor or a lower-level felony
- Cut a deal that is more favorable than investigators offered for your “cooperation”
